On Sunday, March 12th at 4pm, the inauguration will take place in Castelbottaccio of an emblematic symbol in the fight against gender-based violence, representing the void left by a woman who was a victim of violence.
In Castelbottaccio, a small municipality in the lower Molise region, a red bench will be inaugurated in Victory Square at 4 pm on Sunday, March 12th. The red bench is an emblematic symbol in the fight against femicide and represents the void left by a woman who was a victim of violence. The small community of Castelbottaccio, represented by the mayor Mario Disertore, the equal opportunities councilor of the Province of Campobasso, Giuditta Lembo, the president of the "Donna Olimpia Frangipane" Association, Sabina Niro, the president of the "Liberalunaonlus" Association, Mariagrazia La Selva, the parish priest, Father Stanislao John, and the Pro Loco of Castelbottaccio, will dedicate its red bench to Renata Continillo, who was a victim of femicide in Castelbottaccio in the 1980s.
With the red bench placed at the center of its main square, Castelbottaccio wants to promote awareness about femicide and gender-based violence, which represent a wound and a defeat for the entire society, not just remembering women on days dedicated to them. It is an essential task that the local administration intends to carry out together with all the associations in the area, aware of the need for a joint effort to provide information, education, and sensitization to break down stereotypes in all environments, both familial and professional, and put into action a culture of change.
This bench is, therefore, an assumption of responsibility for everyone, men and women, to do everything possible every day to fight violence against women, looking at gender differences as an added value and not in opposition. It is a moral, human, and civilized duty.
